Hi! I'm Harriet.

I grew up listening to Whitney Houston, Celine Dion, Christina Aguilera, Mariah Carey, and the Dixie Chicks. Of course there were other influencers along the way thanks to my grandma and my parents (Rosemary Clooney, Fred Astaire, James Taylor, and Jim Croce), but when I was alone at home, singing in the shower, or escaping to the fields so that no one could hear me mess up a high note or a riff, I was repeating the epic songs of the 90s over and over again, until I knew every breath, every note, every hum.

While my family and close friends knew I enjoyed singing, I kept my dream of one day performing in front of thousands of people a secret. Enter, high school and American Idol. In high school, I performed on stage for the first time. I discovered stage fright, but I also discovered an indescribable feeling of peace and determination. In 2005, I tried out for American Idol. There, I discovered how many other people shared my dream. I didn't get a golden ticket, but I believe my golden ticket was time - time to further discover myself as a musician.

Fast forward twelve years - twelve years filled with a cappella auditions, online competitions, youtube covers, theory classes, graduation, self-doubt, reality checks, support, love, open mic nights, breakups, makeups, studio time, pressure and then, finally - moments of recognition.

So, I'm going to introduce myself again. Hi! I'm Harriet. A year ago, I decided to start writing everything down. Struggles, successes, overheard conversations (sorry everyone in my neighborhood coffee shop), movie quotes, moments that make me laugh, and moments that make me cry. I decided to pick up the guitar and the piano to add music to these words and thoughts. And slowly, very slowly, I started creating my own stories, stories which I cannot wait to share with all of you.

I will always try my best to be me. And I look forward to meeting you.

Love,
Harriet
